Our Makarewa, Southland site
We are based at Makarewa in Southland, New Zealand, 12 km from Invercargill and 40 km from South Port.
Bordering the Makarewa River, we are located near New Zealand’s oat growing region while close to key transport hubs.
We are building on a brownfields site (that’s a site that has already been used for another purpose). This is good for environmental reasons, it lowers the build cost and decreases time to first production.
Our 60 million litre annual capacity facility will be around 6,000m2 with a 4,000m2 dry store. The design is focused on efficiency and energy savings while leaving room for future expansion.
Target over 90% waste diversion from landfill
Climate based daylight modelling, thermal comfort and energy modelling
Designated space for collection, separation and storage of waste
Wetland and drought-tolerant riparian planting created around the building
Environmentally certified wall linings, carpet, ceiling tiles, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) timber and select composite boards
High efficiency LED lighting across the site
Low water use plumbing fittings
Energy and resource efficiency designed in
An energy-efficient façade (with double glazed low-emissivity insulating glass units (IGU)) for all offices combined with high efficiency water VRF systems for heating and cooling to both enhance comfort and reduce refrigerant volumes
Zero ozone-depleting potential (ODP) refrigerants, and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants
Building management system to monitor mechanical/hydraulic services
Energy management system with main and sub electric metering
Future-proofed for the installation of extensive solar photovoltaic
Currently we have a high speed line and our innovation line
There is space available for two more filling and packaging lines
And we have the option to develop further as the industry grows.
